Angling Competition

Competition now fully subscribed, with ten on the reserved list.

Waterways Ireland and Failte Ireland have sponsored an event to be held from Saturday 30th May until Monday 1st June at Lanesborough with a total prize fund of €3000
.
The entry fee of €25 for the main 2 day event will go to the prize fund for the Monday competition for  the 'Less able bodied anglers' (via the wheelchair society) and a children's event.
.
Main event
The distribution of prizes is as follows,-
1st - €1500
2nd - €500
3rd - €200
Total - €2200
.
3 sections each day (A, B & C)
1st - €75
2nd - €50
Total - €125 x3 = €375 x2days = €750
1 prize per angler, a section winner/runner up will only get that prize if he does not frame in the overall event. Section prizes may thus be awarded to the angler who comes 3rd, 4th or even lower in his section.
.
There may be a 'surprise' for the angler with the least points and weight!
.
Grand total = €2950 (15 cash prizes)
A small trophy be also be awarded to the competition winner.
.
At the moment, it is suggested that the three sections be as follows,-
.
A - Above the bridge on the hot water section.
B - Below the bridge to the duck pond.
C - The Roscommon Bank above and below the bridge.
.
This is subject to change if conditions are unfavourable at the Hub's discretion. At the time of the match, all areas are likely to produce with differing tactics. Section A, is unpredictable, and no two days are the same. Section B will either be a whip job targeting Rudd or maybe if overcast, I'd suggest a light feeder or bomb to hope for several Tench. Section C may see the heaviest weight if the hybrids are sitting on the far bank. Also, the pole will sort out a good bag.
.
.
The winner will be determined on points,
1 for section win each day.
2 for 2nd
3 for 3rd
4 for 4th etc
.
This will make the overall result fairer, the angler will have to be consistent in their section regardless of the conditions. Also, over two days the draw should be as near to equal sections of 3 with each section having a sub section.
A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2
.
Over two days, each competitor will fish 2 sections, but not with the same group!
Those drawing on Saturday,- (if 48 fishing 3x sections of 16)
A1 - odds (1, 3, 5, 7, etc) will fish B Section on Sunday
A2 - evens (2, 4, 6, 8, etc) will fish C Section on Sunday
B1 - odds will fish C Section on Sunday
B2 - evens will fish A Section on Sunday
C1 - odds will fish A Section on Sunday
C2 - evens will fish B Section on Sunday
.
There will a draw on the second morning to determine what peg.
.
This rotation system similar to this was developed by myself for The Inny Festival in it's last few years from 2000 to 2003 and proved to be a very equal competition. It means that instead of fishing against the same 15 in a section of 16 over 2 days, you fish against 24 and impossible to fish next to same person each day.
.
This is almost certainly going to be a sell out and you will be advised to get your entry in as soon as they are released early next week. Closing date for entries is May 8th or whenever the upper limit is achieved.
